Ornament Wreath

My über talented and chic (not to mention she’s got crazy photography skillz) friend Whitney created a project I think the world deserves to see.

It’s a wreath made out of colorful, vintage ornaments! Swoon.

I asked Whitney a few questions about her wreath:

Where did you get the idea to make an ornament wreath? i wanted a wreath that would last more than one christmas! and i love vintage and glitter so it was perfect.

Where did you get the ornaments? i literally drove around the GREATER seattle area scouring the antique stores for glass ornaments. (it takes about 70 ornaments to cover a 16″ wreath)

How long have you been collecting the ornaments? it took me about two weeks to find enough for the wreath (no great story about saving them from my grandma since i was two!:)

What other supplies do you need to make it? styrofoam wreath. tinsel. hot glue gun. LOTSA hot glue. sparkly curly ribbon.

And how did you make it? a. wrap the styrofoam wreath with tinsel to cover all white and glue ends to secure b. start gluing (liberally!) the ornaments on the wreath (i placed them around at first to get an idea of what i wanted to go where) c. fill in empty spots with smaller ornaments and sparkly curly ribbon (you could also use sparkly chenille stems that were curled) d. THATS IT! it is seriously the easiest thing ever.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Holy freakin’ moly! That wreath is mind blowing. I will certainly be looking at thrift store or second hand ornaments a whole lot differently now. WOW!

I love this wreath! I have been wanting one for my front door. I’m going to be on the lookout now so I can do this for my home. Thanks Paige for the idea!

Oh my word, I love that! I have a stash of vintage ornaments I scored for FREE from a garage sale and I might have to try it out!

  5. That is an awesome wreath! I am in love with it… I will be making one of those soon, I hope. I have two wreaths that are pushing 10 years old and are pretty sad looking this year. I haven’t replaced them because I haven’t had an idea of what to replace them with. NOW I DO! :-)

  6. That is a gorgeous wreath. I need to start collecting these ornaments – I have the perfect thrift store just blocks from my house!

Be careful about hanging these outside if you get cold weather … I’ve made and sold several of these and the hot glue will separate from the ornaments if they get cold … also, I would suggest storing them inside where the temperature isn’t overly hot … and the ornaments will separate in extreme heat also … Instead of wrapping mine, I fill in all the open spots with pieces of fake garland cut into small pieces … Have fun!!! They are truly beautiful!!!

Where did you get the idea for that ornament wreath??? I saw it featured at Eddie Ross’ blog (www.eddieross.com) last year.

And I LOVE your interpretation of that craft. Vintage = so classy.

  11. That is beautiful! I’d love to make one! Thanks for the how to!

I love the look of the wreath, but can’t bear to think of hot glueing my vintage ornaments. I wonder if you could use a wire wreath and wire them instead?? Looks great, though!!
