WOW #35: Silhouette Heat Transfer with GIVEAWAY!

For today’s “Work It Out Wednesday,” Kerri Bradford has graciously agreed to teach us how to use the exciting Heat Transfer option with your Silhouette Machine.

For this project you will need your Silhouette Machine, Heat Transfer paper, the design you wish to transfer, an iron, an object to which you’ll add your transfer, and a hand towel to cover the heated item while ironing.

Kerri’s instructions are below!

Step 1: Create the needed design. Here I typed adjectives to describe my daughter on an 8.5 x 14″ document.

Step 2: To accommodate the word “individualistic”, the word needs to be rotated. To do this, select the word, right-click, select Position and Settings, and select a 90 degree Angle of Rotation.

Step 3: IMPORTANT NOTE: Everything cut on heat transfer must be flipped. To flip/mirror your Silhouette image, select it, right-click, select Mirror/Horizontal Mirror.

Step 4: It now looks like this.

Step 5: Cut as usual. For flocked heat transfer, use the setting like you would for cardstock–pink cap with a Thickness setting of 28-33. For smooth vinyl, use the blue cap with a Thickness setting of 16-18.

Step 6: Place the heat transfer into the machine with the plastic side on the bottom. You do NOT need a mat.

Step 7: When object is done cutting, peel the negative space away from the backing.

Step 8: It now looks like this.

Step 9: Place the heat transfer sheet face down onto the object to which you’ll add the transfer. Cover with a thin cloth (a dishtowel, apron, pillow case, etc.) and iron, using a heat setting no higher than Wool. Press firmly for 45 seconds until design is pressed.

Step 10: Voila! You’re done!

NOTE: For longer lasting wear on clothing, it is recommended to wash the garment inside-out.
