WOW #28: Button Tying (some options)

I’m slightly addicted to using buttons on my projects. Growing up my mother had a wonderful jar full of lovely buttons that I would scoop up and sift through my fingers. I loved their unique textures, sizes, and colors. That button jar just made me happy!

For today’s “Work It Out Wednesday” I’m going to show you a couple of different ways you can add a button to your project.

For today’s project you will need the following objects:

New Year. New Look. Unveiling our Magazine’s Restyling!

Refreshed by thoughts of a new year, I look forward to making grand changes in my life – all towards creating a better me. Here at Scrapbook Trends Magazine we’re no exception. And with the start of 2010, we’re unveiling our magazine restyling.

Let me point out these wonderful new changes.

First check out our gorgeous cover:

ST 01 Cover

The lovely layout takes center stage. The title has moved from our traditional colorful blocked title to a gentle yet bold cursive and serif font.

Inside you’ll also find exciting changes. Two of our articles, “Real Life” and “Stories to Tell,” got a graphic redesign. Here’s a shot of Jeri Huish’s new title page design:

RealLife (2)

And here is my new look:

My cover page

In addition to article redesigns, you will spot a fun change in how we list the supplies and tips for each page. You can spot the new look here:

Inside layout

What remains the same is our great project photography, our seemingly endless pages of inspiration, our commitment to excellence, and our desire to provide you with a great experience. We are looking forward to a year full of wonderful things, and we’re so excited to share it with you!!

Would you like to win a current copy?

Just leave a comment in the comments section before 10 p.m. MST on Sunday, January 31st and you could win a current issue! (Winner will be revealed on Monday, February 1st!)

Challenge: Use a WOW tutorial to create a layout!

Ok, so by now you’re hopefully settling into your new 2010 routine. I wish I could say that I was right there with you, but I haven’t quite gotten into my groove yet. Yes, I realize that January is half over, but I’m slow to change.

Despite my lack of routines and grooviness, I thought it would be fun to issue you a challenge.

Are you ready?

Challenge: Use one of our previous “Work It Out Wednesday” tutorials to create a layout.

Easy–right?!!

All you need to do is browse through our 27 “Wow” tutorials and pick at least one technique to include on your project. Once you’ve completed the project, take a photo or scan the layout, upload it to your favorite online gallery, link us to your project in the comments section below and MAKE SURE to let us know which WOW(s) inspired you!

I’m so excited to see what tickled your fancy!

Need an incentive?

How about a giveaway package?!! Yep. We’ll send one random participant a fabulous prize package from one of our fabulous sponsors.

Need more incentives?

We’ll also feature some of our favorites on an upcoming blog post!

This is going to be fun. And just to prove how easy it is to participate, I’m going to show my take on this challenge.

Giveaway Friday, House of 3, and Silhouette Inspiration

jarshots

Wednesday night the ladies of House of 3 teamed up with Silhouette to present an entertaining, inspiring, and informative live web show. It was a blast! Heidi Swapp, Rhonna Ferrer, and Keri Bradford spent an hour sharing some of the cutest Valentines Day projects. Even if you don’t own a Silhouette yet, you must check it out. If you missed, no worries! The archive is posted here.

masonjars

I fell in love with Rhonna’s candy jars and absolutely had to make some of my own. I just found an old mason jar in my kitchen cupboard, and using my Silhouette and House of 3 art, I cut some vinyl and adhered it right to the jar. Filled with vanilla sugar, this is sure to be a well-received teacher’s gift!

stones

This simple mini banner was also cut using the Silhouette and House of 3 designs. The bling was applied to the cardstock using the new Rhinestone Kit. Just tie it with ribbon and it’s done! I can hardly wait to fill the container with festive candies.

Do you love these designs but don’t own a Silhouette? No need to worry! Many of these shapes are available as part of House of 3’s Love Twenty Ten dingbat font. Simply download the font, print in reverse on the back of your cardstock, and hand-cut it. It’s simpler than it looks.

Now for the goodies! Leave a comment for your chance at one of SIX fun prizes to help you get ready for Valentine’s Day.

2 Winners will win Heart Box kits

2 Winners will win Wall Art

2 Winners will win Valentine Bundles

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents. (International residents are eligible to win the valentine bundles.)

Good luck – winners will be announced next Friday!

WOW #27: Masking a Stamp

The great thing about creating a stamped image is the ability to customize it! One way to do that is to “mask” part of the image. Masking refers to covering part of a stamped image with a mask so that you can add a a new stamped image above it without destroying the first image.

For this project you will need: ink pads, stamps, scratch paper, final project paper, scissors, and temporary adhesive.

House of 3 – LIVE!

Last week I had a blast ringing in the New Year with Heidi Swapp, Rhonna Farrer, and Janet Hopkins, a.k.a. the House of 3. During a LIVE web show, they shared an inspiring New Year’s project – Simply Amazing 2010. The new streaming format chosen by the ladies of House of 3 is the simplest way to watch a live show on the web – just click on the link and there it is. You don’t even have to log in (though if you do, you can take advantage of special deals and giveaways, like the Silhouette giveaway going on now).  It is literally as easy as watching TV!

houseof3

This week, the ladies are at it again with a totally new LIVE, INTERACTIVE, and FREE web show tomorrow night, January 13. Heidi and some very special guests have teamed up with Silhouette to share amazing projects using House of 3 designs. Heidi will be demonstrating just how the Silhouette works from start to finish, how it can enhance your creative process, and she’ll be sharing some of her personal tips and techniques to spark your own creativity.

According to the House of 3 blog, tomorrow night is going to be“…a whole hour dedicated to sharing, showing, teaching, laughing, creating, inspiring, and maybe even some more dancing. LOL!” What more could you ask for?

Even if you don’t own a Silhouette, there will be plenty of design inspiration for everyone. (Did I mention a free Silhouette giveaway?) House of 3 will also be offering a special bundle that includes some of their exclusive designs. So join House of 3 here on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 7pm MST. You’re sure to be inspired!

If you missed last week’s show, you can still watch it here. The kit shown is available for purchase on the House of 3 website.
