Maybe it’s because we have long winters of cold and dreary days, but I love the colors of spring, summer, and fall. So many beautiful combinations and shades. I always feel inspired when I take a walk in nature.
But sometimes in my scrapbooking I get caught in a color rut. I am typically drawn to Primary colors: red, green, yellow and blue in the brightest shades possible. And I find it hard to break out of that rut and try something new.
So this week’s challenge is to use an interesting color combination to create a layout. I’ll share my color combination with you here. Using a white background is always a bit of a challenge for me, so I started with white and then added tones of gray, rust red, and golden yellow. The result was a new color combination that I found I really love.

And here is the layout I completed inspired by those colors:

(Supplies: “Monkey Do” solid red paper, red dot, and diagonal stripe paper by the Queen of Quirk, title and solid gray paper from “Limoncello” kit by the Queen of Quirk, “Punch Buggy” word paper by the Queen of Quirk,” “Scrap Canvas 11″ by the Queen of Quirk, “Buttons” by Kate Teague, “Photo corners” by Kate Teague all from www.twopeasinabucket.com)
To participate in this week’s challenge, please complete a layout or card, post it in an online gallery or your personal blog, and then link us to it in your comments. Be sure to tell us what color combination you are using. All projects (one per person), must be posted by Saturday, July 11th at 10 p.m. MST to be included in the drawing. One winner will be selected to receive a prize from one of our awesome sponsors!
Need a color boost? A great way to introduce yourself to new colors is to check out the color challenge blogs available on the web. Here are a few that I like to visit, when I need a shot of color:
Each blog offers a weekly color combination and some of the sites even host challenges and prizes. Do you have a color combination website you like to visit? Please share! We’d love to take a peek at what inspires you as well!
Have a colorful week!

Hi,
I love all the color challenges you listed in the post. I really makes me reach for color choices that I may not have otherwise. Here is a card I made using Dawn McVey’s color challenge.

Thanks for sharing! I’ll try this one for my son’s scrapbook.

I ended up going with your combo – I didn’t read very well apparently and didn’t notice we could do other combos until it was too later…oops!
