I just love this time of year. The lights, the music, and of course the festive decorations and gift giving! While perusing through my copy of December issue of Simply Handmade, I fell in love with these little gift boxes created by Renae Curtz. I love the modern twist she put on the traditional matchbox by using wood sheets to create the boxes.
It is the last day of November, so I guess I better get moving to make my own holiday countdown. Luckily, these are proving to be really easy to make. Renae die cut the boxes from wooden sheets; leaving the wood raw is a great look and helps make this project come together quickly. (Texture Cuts Wood Sheets, Tree Trimmings stamps, Bigz XL die all available from Stampin’ Up!)
For more crafty countdown ideas, check out these gorgeous blogs.
- My Mind’s Eye – simple, gorgeous count-down using, believe it or not, a clothesline
- Red Thread – a modern paper cone display (be sure to check out her entire Christmas crafts series)
- The Queen Says – a 5 x 5 grid of boxes with plenty of room for little treats inside
- Full Circle – a stunning DIY wall display that incorporates children’s artwork
And while you’re at it, keep an eye out for this sweet calendar from Kaisercraft to become available.

i have been kicking around the idea of making my own advent calendar. now i know what i can do thanks.

I would so love to win this machine – I am now a single Mom with a disabling disease – genetic autoimmmune arthritic in nature, called HLA-B27 disease – Ankylosing Spondylitis – that has spread out of my spine into every joint in my body. The awesome news, and if anyone reads this, please PRAISE GOD, is that I have been healing through Him. I am able to move and have more energy and do so much more without having the serious flare-ups that caused me to pass out every 2-3 minutes for days upon days. OR having to have my best friend bring me ice packs for about an hour before I could even get out of bed! I am on Remicade (a drug that has scary side effects but helps with inflamation) and again, PRAISE GOD WITH ME, He has kept me from any illnesses and this has helped my mobility too! Anyway, I also got divorced 2 years go and have a Special Needs daughter (with lots of issues, and she was non-funcitonal pretty much until about 2 years ago and now is doing amazingly well compared to before – another huge PRAISE to the LORD. We have been living in His Grace and Mercy and Blessings.
Anyway, I am trying to build a home-based business and would love to do more in my card, scrapbooking and craft area but because of my disease, I cannot work for long without a ton of pain. I am thinking this wonderful tool would give me the ability to do so much more without a lot of effort and pain.
I realize this is a random drawing – and my blessings have never come from these type of things – I never win, but i wanted to share my story to give others hope and encourage you never stop searching for the right answers to your health problems, never stay with a doctor who says it’s in your head or will not help you manage pain, keep asking, keep trying different specialists and NEVER BELIEVE YOU CANNOT HEAL ANY MORE!! I thought that for a while but I am now seeing that I limited myself. Through faith, and PRAYER, and TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR, if you give HIM ANY PROBLEM, any HEALTH ISSUE, HE can HEAL YOU!! He is our HEALER and our SAVIOR!
I did not even believe in God for 39 years and I probably sound like a religious nut to some of you, but if you even feel the slightest question, wonder or ….could it be, do you believe? Then ask God to give you more faith, draw you closer, teach you. Ask Jesus to show you who He is. I even asked God to reveal HIMSELF IN REAL WAYS to my daughter and myself and HE DID! NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!!
Blessings to every one of you! I truly enjoy all the work and help you give us and love your creativity. Merry Christmas!
Love,
AM
