I have been scrapooking for years now, but one thing that helps keep it interesting is the fun new techniques and products that I get to play with. I like to get messy, create things, and feel a sense of accomplishment once my projects are complete. One product in particular gives me that wonderfully satisfied feeling and that is Glimmer Mist.

Tattered Angels generously donated two colors to complete today’s project: Lemon Zest and Golden Terracotta.

To complete today’s project you will need: Glimmer Mist in the colors of your choice, the pattern paper or cardstock you choose to use, a protective surface for your project (I use newspaper or a plastic tablecloth from the dollar store), and some sort of a mask. The mask can be a plastic template or “screen,” a vinyl die cut, a chipboard shape–really whatever you’d like to use as a mask will work well (including household items like keys or hands, etc.)–just know that whatever you use will need to be cleaned immediately afterwards.

Step 1: On a covered surface, place your cardstock/paper down and spray the Lemon Zest (or lighter color) across the cardstock. (Keep spray a few inches away–and test a scrap piece until you feel comfortable with the spray nozzle.)

Step 2: Place mask on cardstock.

Step 3: Use the Golden Terracotta (darker color) to spray across and around the mask.

NOTE: Before continuing with project, allow the sprayed area to dry.

Here is my completed project:

(Supplies: Cardstock–Provo Craft, American Crafts, Die Cuts with a View, Bazzill; Transparency–Little Yellow Bicycle; Pattern Paper–Bo Bunny; Scallop scissors–Provo Craft; Circle punches–EK Success; Pearls–Hero Arts; Stamps–Stampin’ Up, Technique Tuesday, American Crafts, Hero Arts; Stamping ink–Inque Boutique, Versamark, Stampin’ Up; Photo corners–Heidi Swapp; chipboard butterfly–Scenic Route; Font–Vintage Typewriter; Glimmer Mist–Tattered Angels)

For more information and tutorials on Glimmer Mist, be sure to visit the Tattered Angels Demo page. I found their tutorials VERY helpful. You can also check out their beautiful selection of mists while there.

Here is an example of the Screens offered by Tattered Angels:

And here is a photo of their Limited Editions colors for 2010:

Note: If I mentioned that Heidi Swapp is collaborating with Tattered Angels would that make you EVEN more excited? Be sure to check out exclusive products created with Heidi in mind!

Do you have a completed card or scrapbook layout to show fellow readers? We’d love to see how Glimmer Mist has made an impact on your projects! Just leave a link in the comments section below!

I also wanted to share some of the entries for this month’s challenge. This first one is from Carina:

Carina used the following tutorials to complete this layout:

# 7-die cutting felt ( the green heart)
# 9- edge distressing ( on the white cardstock)
#11 faux scallop edge ( the brown scallop borders on the top and bottom of the layout)
#13 Border punches (MS- border punch, brown paper under the photo)

Here is Valerie’s take. She used the #1-Faux Scallop technique to complete this pretty layout:

Valerie also completed a second layout using the #2-Faux Scallop Border to create this piece:

Teresa used the #13-Border Punch tutorial on this project:

Thank you for all those that participated. It is so much fun to be inspired by our readers!

The CHA winter show is coming to a close, but we still have tons of new products, sneak peeks, and giveaways to share!

One common trend throughout the show was happiness. Many manufacturers have created lines that are bright, happy, and in many ways homey and comforting. Perhaps this is the industry’s way of leaving behind the worries of the world.

Here are a few more of our favorite finds:

GCD Studios - Melody Ross design and Chipboard art

Melody Ross designed these happy and nostalgic paper lines. She also released Chipboard Art, a fun system of tools and chipboard blanks that allow you to create custom chipboard pieces.

Tattered Angels – Glam, Glaze, and Chalk

Tattered Angels expanded their family of art mediums to include Glimmer Glam, Glimmer Glaze, and Chalkboard sprays. The Glimmer Glam includes multi-faceted, custom blended glitter in a paintable form. The Glimmer Glaze is a thicker medium that has the same shimmer qualities as the sprays but in a more viscous blend. And my personal favorite, the Chalkboard spray, is a semi-opaque glimmer spray. If there wasn’t enough good news already, Tattered Angels will be supporting these lines with plenty of free education for consumers and store owners.

Doodlebug – Feelin’ Groovy and Barnyard

Doodlebug is no newcomer to the happiness trend. Their fun, bright signature style comes to life in several new lines. Notable are Feelin’ Groovy and Barnyard. Feelin’ Groovy is a nod to all things retro – a little ’60s and even a touch of the ’80s! Barnyard is just what you hope to expect: the cutest barn yard animals you have ever seen!

Are you the type that’s never satisfied with using something just one way? Do you like to make your dollar stretch? I’m right there with you!

Digital scrapbooking can be an inexpensive alternative to traditional scrapbooking when you know a few tips and tricks. Today I’m going to share with you a few methods for recoloring a digital element.

For this project, you will need: a digital element downloaded from your favorite digital site, a photo editing program (I’m using Photoshop CS4).

Step 1: Open up your photo editing program and open up your digital element. (Keep the element small enough on your screen so that you can open additional dialog boxes to complete this technique.)

Step 2: At the top, select “Image” and then “Adjustments” and then “Hue/Saturation” to open the box below.

Step 3: Slide the “Lightness” slider from the middle over to the right side and watch what happens to the black word brush–it turns WHITE!!

(Supplies: Ali Edwards “This Moment” brush from the “Everyday” kit by www.designerdigitals.com)

Isn’t that an easy way to change an element from black to white? (NOTE: make sure you save the original brush as black. If it makes it easier to remember this then duplicate the original layer before making any changes to it.)

Now let’s try recoloring a true color element. This type I’ll recolor a red ribbon.

Step 1: Open up the ribbon. Follow step 2 above to open the “Hue/Saturation” box.

Step 2: This time select the “Hue” slider. Play around with the slider. Move it left or move it right. Notice how the ribbon changes color? Any time you want it to go back to the original color just type zero in the number field. I moved mine to the right and it changed my ribbon from red to brown.

(Supplies: Shabby Princess “Happy Go Lucky” kit from www.shabbyprincess.com)

Cool, huh?!!

You can also play with the “Saturation” bar which will change the hue of your color (lighter brown or darker brown).

Isn’t this fun?!!

Now think about the possibilities this opens up? You can change ANYTHING: photos, digital paper, digital alphabets, brush colors, etc.

On this completed project, I’ve recolored the solid red paper which was originally too dark and I recolored the “dream overlay” and “today you” brush which were originally black to change them to white.

(Supplies: Kate Teague’s photo corner from the “Line Em’ Up the Extras” kit by www.twopeasinabucket.com; Carina Gardener’s single stitch from the “Elemen-tary Stitches 1″ kit by www. twopeasinabucket.com; Katie Pertiet “dream” overlay from the “All You Need Overlays” kit by www.designerdigitals.com; Ali Edwards’ “today you” brush from the “Everyday” kit by www.designerdigitals.com; The Queen of Quirks “Paper 9″ and “Paper 11″ and “Paper 6″ from the “Monkey Do” kit by www.twopeasinabucket.com; Taylormade Creative Outlet Number 1 “template” by www.paisleepress.com; Michelle Martin’s “Lolly 1″ and “Lolly 2″ and “Lolly 6″ from the “Lolly” kit by www.designerdigitals.com)

Now how about you tell me one digital element you’ve recolored (or hope to recolor) and why! Just leave a comments in your comments section.
