New Year. New Look. Unveiling our Magazine’s Restyling!

Refreshed by thoughts of a new year, I look forward to making grand changes in my life – all towards creating a better me. Here at Scrapbook Trends Magazine we’re no exception. And with the start of 2010, we’re unveiling our magazine restyling.

Let me point out these wonderful new changes.

First check out our gorgeous cover:

ST 01 Cover

The lovely layout takes center stage. The title has moved from our traditional colorful blocked title to a gentle yet bold cursive and serif font.

Inside you’ll also find exciting changes. Two of our articles, “Real Life” and “Stories to Tell,” got a graphic redesign. Here’s a shot of Jeri Huish’s new title page design:

RealLife (2)

And here is my new look:

My cover page

In addition to article redesigns, you will spot a fun change in how we list the supplies and tips for each page. You can spot the new look here:

What remains the same is our great project photography, our seemingly endless pages of inspiration, our commitment to excellence, and our desire to provide you with a great experience. We are looking forward to a year full of wonderful things, and we’re so excited to share it with you!!

CHA Day 3 – GIVEAWAY!

Tantalizing Tools

I am sure that you have already heard all the buzz surrounding the Provo Craft Gypsy. (An add on to the Cricket that allows you to load all your cartridges to the unit so you don’t have to bring them with you.) But this show proved to have a strong showing in the category of tools. This is probably due to the fact that tools have much more impact when used in person. Most tools just don’t translate as well online or in print.

Ellison gets a major two thumbs up with the Score Board line of dies. These dies are specially designed to cut AND score mat board. This allows the user to create some amazing boxes and holders. The creative possibilities are endless. And the best part is that the dies work in your existing Big Shot.

Martha Stewart Crafts introduced the Punch Around the Page line. Each pattern consists of two coordinating punches. One corner punch and one border punch. The combination allows the user to easily create the look of an intricate die cut border, all around the page.  The punches can also be used individually.

CHA Day 2 (part 2)

Day 2 of the show. Although the show is smaller than previous CHA shows, I am still VERY busy with almost back to back appointments. Not a bad gig I admit… meeting with manufacturers and checking out the new wares can hardly be called work. This day, I seemed to be seeing a trend.

Holidays and themes seem to be back en vogue with paper and embellishment lines. A few seasons ago it seemed more hip to release stylized lines. This back to the basics approach however is not a bad thing. It certainly speaks to the vast majority of  scrapbookers and crafters in the market. Some of the most notable…

Halloween Lines

Basic Grey released their first ever Halloween line. The deep colors and more sophisticated patterns are perfect for both adult and kids pages. The collection also includes the cutest skull shaped favor box kit.

basic

Doodle Bughas a line that will make you feel happy, happy, happy! My favorites are the skullie paper and brads. This is also the only Halloween line that I saw that has pink integrated into it!

doodle_hallow

Christmas linesare festive and fun as well.  There seems to be a trend toward adding pink into Holiday lines. (yippie!)

Cosmo Cricket really hit it out of the park with this very fun holiday line.

CHA Day 1 (part 1)

Greetings from Orlando! This has been quite a day. The first thing that hits you upon entering the show, is that it is a lot smaller than shows in the past. It is evident that the recession has hit the craft and hobby industry. But a smaller show does come with its perks! It gives us the opportunity to send more time talking to the manufacturers and checking out the new offerings.

I will post more later tonight (I have to run off to a dinner meeting!…) But I had to share with you what I found to be the most exciting and new items at the show!

So one of the most exciting products is the “L” from Quickutz. It is a home letterpress kit. The letterpress kit is part of the Lifestyle Craft brand.

letterpress

letterpress2

Quickutz really hit this out of the park. The program includes authentic cotton paper stock, plates, letter press inks in 24 colors, and two starter kits. (The kit utilizes the Epic Six to create the designs) And the whole program is very reasonably priced.

We watched them demo the “L” and even gave it a try. The results really were amazing. I have been a fan of letterpress for a long time, so seeing this in action was thrilling. They have many design kits to create an endless number of projects. And knowing Quickutz, I am sure we will see more designs coming from them on a regular basis.

Ok, sorry to cut this short, but I will post more pictures and some paper and embellishment pics later tonight!

Father’s Day

This adorable daddy-themed layout by Davinie Fiero featured in the June issue of Scrapbook Trends would be a perfect gift to set out on the breakfast table on Sunday morning. It even looks a little like a present, all wrapped up with that cute bow. Love the Cosmo Cricket die cuts too, they add just the right touch!

You can see our whole section of Father’s Day layouts in the the June issue, available at your local scrapbook store or on our website. If you don’t want to wait for the hard copy (yeah, Father’s Day is only four days away), you can purchase a $5 pass to view the online version instantly.
