Challenge: Use a WOW tutorial to create a layout!

Ok, so by now you’re hopefully settling into your new 2010 routine. I wish I could say that I was right there with you, but I haven’t quite gotten into my groove yet. Yes, I realize that January is half over, but I’m slow to change.

Despite my lack of routines and grooviness, I thought it would be fun to issue you a challenge.

Are you ready?

Challenge: Use one of our previous “Work It Out Wednesday” tutorials to create a layout.

Easy–right?!!

All you need to do is browse through our 27 “Wow” tutorials and pick at least one technique to include on your project. Once you’ve completed the project, take a photo or scan the layout, upload it to your favorite online gallery, link us to your project in the comments section below and MAKE SURE to let us know which WOW(s) inspired you!

I’m so excited to see what tickled your fancy!

Need an incentive?

How about a giveaway package?!! Yep. We’ll send one random participant a fabulous prize package from one of our fabulous sponsors.

Need more incentives?

We’ll also feature some of our favorites on an upcoming blog post!

This is going to be fun. And just to prove how easy it is to participate, I’m going to show my take on this challenge.

Challenge #4: Use a Sketch!

I keep a notebook full of ideas that I’d like to use on upcoming scrapbook projects. Most of the ideas that I keep are sketches that I create for great layout designs.

Today’s challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create a layout inspired by this sketch:

Sketch

You can alter the sketch by turning it on it’s side, eliminating one or two items, adding in an additional photo or two. One sketch can go a VERY long way and can continue to inspire you in different ways. Try the same sketch on a card for instance.

I played along with the challenge and here is my completed project:

Our-Young-Woman-Sketch-layo

(Supplies: Cardstock–Bazzill, American Crafts; Pattern Paper–Creative Cafe; Scallop Scissors–Provo Craft; Punches: Martha Stewart, EK Success; Stamps–Hero Arts; Stamping Ink–Stampin’ Up, Versamark, Michael’s; Embossing Powder–Inque Boutique; Label sticker–Jenni Bowlin; Cork–Quickutz; Twine–craft supply; Felt Star Button–Making Memories; Pearls–Hero Arts; Letter Stickers–K&Co., American Crafts; Ribbon–Pebbles Inc.; Digital Word Brushes–Ali Edwards “Everyday word brushes” from Designer Digitals).

To participate in this challenge, create the layout and upload it to your blog or favorite online gallery. Then simply leave a comment with a link to your project. A winner will be randomly selected and posted on Monday, September 7, 2009. To enter this challenge, you MUST post your links by midnight MST Sunday, September 6. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Challenge #3: Alter a Back-to-School Item!

Are your kids (or you) heading back to school this fall? My kids have only two weeks of summer and thoughts of lunch boxes, notebooks, and crayons are beginning to fill at least my own head. (They are dreaming of more things along the line of more swimming, more Wii time, and more friend time.)

For this week’s challenge, I challenge you to alter a back-to-school item. It can be a notebook, pencils, magnets for a locker, a composition book, etc. Whatever you choose make something personal for your student!

You have until Sunday night at midnight MST to complete this challenge. In order to be included in this challenge, you will need to link us to your project within the comments below before the deadline. The winner will be selected by random drawing and receive a prize from our fabulous sponsors.

Here’s something to get you thinking! I altered a composition book and a pencil cup with lovely items from Chatterbox, Inc. It even makes me want to go back to school to use them. LOL!

It was so much fun to see you play along with our first challenge: “Create a mini album in a day.” Did you discover how easily mini albums can come together? Did you find that editing your options helped you complete your album? Tell us what you learned during this challenge! We’d love to hear from you.

We loved all the mini albums linked for this challenge, and we can hardly wait to announce the winner of this challenge! So without further ado our winner is . . . Jennifer Hansen!! You can see this album at http://jenniferhansenscrapgallery.blogspot.com/2009/06/daddy-mini-album-scrap-within.html. Jennifer’s mini album is exactly that . . . mini! It measures only 2 X 3″ and incorporates index prints for quickly assembly. It’s a lovely example of how a mini album can be both quick and beautiful!

Here a photograph of the cover of her lovely album:

Be sure to follow the links posted in last week’s comments to look at equally beautiful albums. Here’s one more example of a mini album that we spotted that we absolutely love. Abbie Torroll created this lovely album showcasing her biggest moments and favorite memories so far so her husband would know how much her family loves and admires him. We love the beautiful 4th of July color scheme. You can see more of this album at http://abbietorroll.blogspot.com/.

We hope you continue to play along with our Challenges and our “Work It Out” Wednesday projects! It’s always fun to see what you’re creating.

Challenge #1: Complete a Mini Album in a Day

Up for a challenge this week? We just released our latest “Mini Album” idea book for sale so we thought it would be fun to encourage you to take one day to create your own mini album.

How can you accomplish this? Here are a couple of ideas:

* Start with a sketch. We provided a sketch in the new idea book to help you get started. One sketch can be used multiple times and helps keep you on track from start to finish.

* Keep it small. Thus the “mini” in “mini album.” Large albums require more product, more time, and more journaling. By keeping the project smaller, you need less time to finish.

* Be prepared. Just like the Scout motto, by having all supplies at the ready your project will be much easier to complete.

Here’s a great example of a mini album that you can complete in a day. This mini album was created by Juliana Michaels to celebrate the addition of a new horse to their family. To see more of this gorgeous album, check out Juliana’s blog: www.17turtles.blogspot.com.
