WOW #30: Glimmer Mist

I have been scrapooking for years now, but one thing that helps keep it interesting is the fun new techniques and products that I get to play with. I like to get messy, create things, and feel a sense of accomplishment once my projects are complete. One product in particular gives me that wonderfully satisfied feeling and that is Glimmer Mist.

Tattered Angels generously donated two colors to complete today’s project: Lemon Zest and Golden Terracotta.

To complete today’s project you will need: Glimmer Mist in the colors of your choice, the pattern paper or cardstock you choose to use, a protective surface for your project (I use newspaper or a plastic tablecloth from the dollar store), and some sort of a mask. The mask can be a plastic template or “screen,” a vinyl die cut, a chipboard shape–really whatever you’d like to use as a mask will work well (including household items like keys or hands, etc.)–just know that whatever you use will need to be cleaned immediately afterwards.

Step 1: On a covered surface, place your cardstock/paper down and spray the Lemon Zest (or lighter color) across the cardstock. (Keep spray a few inches away–and test a scrap piece until you feel comfortable with the spray nozzle.)

Mist-1

Step 2: Place mask on cardstock.

Mist-2

Step 3: Use the Golden Terracotta (darker color) to spray across and around the mask.

Mist-3

NOTE: Before continuing with project, allow the sprayed area to dry.

Here is my completed project:

CHA 2010: Day 2, Part 2

The CHA winter show is coming to a close, but we still have tons of new products, sneak peeks, and giveaways to share!

One common trend throughout the show was happiness. Many manufacturers have created lines that are bright, happy, and in many ways homey and comforting. Perhaps this is the industry’s way of leaving behind the worries of the world.

Here are a few more of our favorite finds:

GCD Studios - Melody Ross design and Chipboard art

chipboard

Melody Ross designed these happy and nostalgic paper lines. She also released Chipboard Art, a fun system of tools and chipboard blanks that allow you to create custom chipboard pieces.

Tattered Angels – Glam, Glaze, and Chalk

tatteredglam glaze chalk

Tattered Angels expanded their family of art mediums to include Glimmer Glam, Glimmer Glaze, and Chalkboard sprays. The Glimmer Glam includes multi-faceted, custom blended glitter in a paintable form. The Glimmer Glaze is a thicker medium that has the same shimmer qualities as the sprays but in a more viscous blend. And my personal favorite, the Chalkboard spray, is a semi-opaque glimmer spray. If there wasn’t enough good news already, Tattered Angels will be supporting these lines with plenty of free education for consumers and store owners.

Doodlebug – Feelin’ Groovy and Barnyard

doodle_groovy doodle_barnyard

Doodlebug is no newcomer to the happiness trend. Their fun, bright signature style comes to life in several new lines. Notable are Feelin’ Groovy and Barnyard. Feelin’ Groovy is a nod to all things retro – a little ’60s and even a touch of the ’80s! Barnyard is just what you hope to expect: the cutest barn yard animals you have ever seen!

There is much more to come! To see dozens of projects and layouts using the latest ideas and supplies from CHA, be sure to check out the Scrapbook Trends Facebook Page.

House of 3 – LIVE!

Last week I had a blast ringing in the New Year with Heidi Swapp, Rhonna Farrer, and Janet Hopkins, a.k.a. the House of 3. During a LIVE web show, they shared an inspiring New Year’s project – Simply Amazing 2010. The new streaming format chosen by the ladies of House of 3 is the simplest way to watch a live show on the web – just click on the link and there it is. You don’t even have to log in (though if you do, you can take advantage of special deals and giveaways, like the Silhouette giveaway going on now).  It is literally as easy as watching TV!

houseof3

This week, the ladies are at it again with a totally new LIVE, INTERACTIVE, and FREE web show tomorrow night, January 13. Heidi and some very special guests have teamed up with Silhouette to share amazing projects using House of 3 designs. Heidi will be demonstrating just how the Silhouette works from start to finish, how it can enhance your creative process, and she’ll be sharing some of her personal tips and techniques to spark your own creativity.

According to the House of 3 blog, tomorrow night is going to be“…a whole hour dedicated to sharing, showing, teaching, laughing, creating, inspiring, and maybe even some more dancing. LOL!” What more could you ask for?

Even if you don’t own a Silhouette, there will be plenty of design inspiration for everyone. (Did I mention a free Silhouette giveaway?) House of 3 will also be offering a special bundle that includes some of their exclusive designs. So join House of 3 here on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 7pm MST. You’re sure to be inspired!

If you missed last week’s show, you can still watch it here. The kit shown is available for purchase on the House of 3 website.
