I've been scrapbooking since I was 16 years old and love the hobby more each day! I enjoy making things by hand - from cards and layouts to books and baskets. My day is not complete unless I've made something. I'm the Copy Editor for the Northridge magazines and love all the inspiration I get from seeing everyone's creations. On a more personal note, we're expecting our first baby, a boy, in October and we couldn't be more thrilled!

I’d like to thank everyone for playing along in our “Work On the Diagonal Challenge”. It’s so much fun to see how you can design in exciting new ways!
I have a few projects that I would like to share with you today. The first is a digital layout by Christine Hertel. I love how her title lays on the diagonal. It also demonstrates how you can direct the eye to move across a layout in a certain way. Her son is about to drop in with his skateboard and her title leads your eye to the point at which he is preparing to do so.

You can find more of Christine’s dynamic designs in her online gallery here or visit her blog http://workforscraps.blogspot.com.

Hi, it’s Tammy here, just popping in to remind all you crafters out there that
submissions for the February-March issue of Simply Handmade are due this Thursday the 19th. I know, that’s kind of weird to be thinking of Valentine’s stuff in August, right? So it goes when you’re on a magazine schedule. But keep in mind it’s not limited to Valentine’s; anything crafty is welcome — see our calls below.
…………………………………………………..
- Love is in the Air – Gifts, treats, books, etc. for a special someone, or anything that celebrates love.
- Valentine’s Day Decor – Spruce up your living space with fun love-themed decorations.
- Pillow Talk – Think throw pillows with cool designs that you’ve stamped, painted, created from felt, embroidered, patchworked, appliqued, etc. Or just a really neat standard pillowcase that you’ve made.
- Framed – Fixed-up antique frames, framed pieces that you’ve made, decorated frames.
- Masking – Projects that use the technique of masking, whether it’s spray mist, ink, or acrylic paint.
- Punches – We’re looking for cute projects that use that standby – the punch. Old or new, shapes or borders…we’ll even count decorative scissors. And don’t forget about what you can do with plain old hole punches.
- Simple Bags – Totes, clutches, handbags. Sew your own, or embellish a pre-made bag. Keep it simple and cute.
- Craft Fair – Have you made something absolutely adorable, but it doesn’t fit our current calls? Sent it anyway, we’re always happy to see all kinds of fabulous creations!
…………………………………………………..
Send a picture of what you’ve made to: creations@northridgepublishing.com. (Please do a separate email for each submission.) Thank you!!

In middle school, I just thought I was being nerdy when I looked for typos on Spirit Week signage – little did I know I was training for a future career in editing. Now a mother of two young children, my days are full of crafting, writing, and activities that amuse the pre-K crowd. I can't get enough vintage typography and poster design, and never met a fabric store I didn't like.
Ever feel off-kilter? Most of the time I feel a little bit like that. I’m guessing we all feel a bit like that. But sometimes in scrapbooking, off-kilter can be a great design tool!
For this week’s challenge let’s work with the diagonal. Here’s a layout in which I created several strips of paper that run diagonally across the bottom right corner of my page. It’s a dynamic look for an otherwise simple layout.
