Challenge Gallery and New Challenge!

Another week has come and gone! Thanks so much for participating in yet another fun CARDS challenge. Submissions keep getting better and better so please continue to play along. The challenge this week was to create Thanksgiving place cards, and boy do we have a great variety! From cards kids can help create, to cards that you’ll want to keep and frame, you’ll undoubtedly find something you’ll want to replicate for your Thanksgiving feast.

First up – this gem by Dana Gustafson. She says, “I used a turkey digital image from the turn-of-the-century (1903!) shared by Cathe Holden at www.justsomethingimade.blogspot.com. Then I layered the turkey and the place card name in Microsoft Word and printed. Lots of inking, pinking, embossing, and layers is all it takes to make these cards. Oh, and also some tea stained lace leftovers that were a fun addition for balance.” I LOVE that little piece of lace – it’s the perfect finishing touch!

Next – a couple o’ cards by the talented Kelley Eubanks. I’m digging the effects of the crackle paint on the turkey and pumpkin – gives it that extra oomph.

Isn’t this place card by Mona Pendleton divine? I’m quite fond of the layered scalloped die cuts, the intricate stamping, and that unexpected hint of blue that makes this card eye-catching.

Here’s an example of a place card by Lynn Miller that you could bust out several dozen in an afternoon. It’s simple, elegant, and serves it’s purpose to a “T,” with that flair we scrapbookers are known for.

One of my favorite products I own is a decorative border punch by Fiskars. Only problem? I don’t know how to use it on my projects…I feel like it’s too feminine for my everyday needs. But this card by Valerie Mangan inspires me to get out my dusty punch and make dozens of decorative edged place cards! They don’t look girly in the slightest! In fact, they give this card additional “punch” (pun intended, haha). Valerie says, “These cards have enough space in them for each guest to write one thing they are thankful for – I’m hoping to get everyone to write one and save them with our photos or use them in a layout.” Great idea!

Aren’t the colors of this place card bright and fun? Just what we all need during the drab winter months. An added bonus – there’s a packet of hot chocolate included!

Mary by Joanne Burton

Here’s a card by Hollie Shepard that’s made from leftover scraps of paper so it’s eco-friendly and budget efficient! Plus, sewing on cards is fun and good practice :0)

These neutral place cards with a pop of orange by Dana Grothaus would make a great addition to any Thanksgiving dinner table. They’re so clean and well-made.

Giselle Zimmerman comes from an island called Curacao in the Netherlands and they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving there, but she wanted to play along in this week’s challenge so she made place cards anyways! Aren’t they cute?

These place tags by Nora Griffin are so professional looking I would have thought they were bought from a store! I especially love the notched and popped up name piece.

A place card filled with candy? What’s not to love about that?! I am all over these three-dimensional place cards by Tracie Jacobson. Any tutorial tips for remaking these Tracie? I’d LOVE to know!

Here’s another great way to use up scraps on Thanksgiving place cards by Winter Sims. Punch squares from your scraps and stitch them onto a mini card. Easy peasy.

Our last example comes from Dawn Woleslagle. She was inspired by her Thanksgiving centerpiece when making her Thanksgiving place cards.

Centerpiece by Dawn WoleslagleI love the detail of the stitches and the chalking around the edges.

So many fun ideas! I can’t wait to get started on my own. Thanks again for submitting your place cards!

Now for this week’s challenge: big ol’ ribbon bows! I love when wide ribbon is the starring role on a card. Here are some examples:

Welcome Neighbor by Stacey Kingman – isn’t that ribbon gorgeous?

And here’s Pink Birds by Andrea Robledo.

Fullscreen capture 11132009 42037 PMThe bigger and wider the ribbon the better! Indulge my obsession! Please email your cards to me at paiget@scrapbooktrendsmag.com by next Friday the 20th and I’ll be back then to post my faves and issue a new challenge. Have a great weekend – are you doing anything fun? I’m just hangin’ out and playin’ with my new puppy :0) See you next week!

What color scheme is your favorite or inspires you most?
All I have to do is look on J.Crew and their hip and trendy clothing colors inspire me the most.

What is the last book you read?
I just finished reading the entire Harry Potter series. Soooo good.

You are suddenly transported into a different period in history.  Where would you choose to go?
15th century Florence because that was the height of the Renaissance - think Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, etc.

Do you have a blog?
Of course! It's chrisandpaige.blogspot.com. Thanks for stopping by!
