Fabulous cards all around! I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels inspired to go make some lovey dovey cards for my better half right now.

For this week’s challenge: since Valentine’s Day is just over a week away, let’s go with a Valentine theme, but to add some interest I want to see Valentine cards with fabric! I’m loving all the cards,  layouts, and projects I’m seeing around the web recently that utilize fabric in a clever way. Please email photos (I’d prefer photos over blog links pretty please!) of your cards to paiget@scrapbooktrendsmag.com by next Friday February 12th and I’ll have another challenge gallery post up that same afternoon. Until then, hope you have a great weekend and following week, and here’s to getting crafty!

Love is in the Air!

Happy February, my friends! It boggles my mind that we are already starting the 2nd month of 2010. There are many reasons to love February, but for me, it’s all about February 14th, the day of LOVE!

I love the colors, flowers, decor and the yummy candy. I *heart* valentine candy! (sigh…) Even more than the candy, though, I adore handmade valentines. I have a box full of them that I have received and kept from family, friends and loved ones that I cherish. This is a card-markers holiday! We can share our love with a simple handmade card. And that’s why I’m here today, to spread the love! I made this card below for all of you!

FLIRT by Alisha Gordon
Card is 4 ¼ x 4 ¾”

Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper, ribbon, glitter lace, chipboard sentiment: We R Memory Keepers

How to: Trim polka dot paper to 8 ½ x 4 ¾” then score and fold it in half. Trim white cardstock to 3 ½ x 4″ and apply glitter lace; trim off the excess from both sides. Adhere a white cardstock piece to the middle. Attach a chipboard sentiment, tie a bow from heart ribbon and attach it below the sentiment.

This card is super simple and easy to recreate! If you want more ideas right away, check out our online edition for February. It’s packed full of love cards!

And because I’m in the mood to keeping spreading the love, let’s do a giveaway! To enter, leave me a comment by 10pm MST on Monday, February 8th telling me about your favorite valentine candy. You will be entered to win a My Mind’s Eye Love Me Do Paper Kit!! The winner will be selected at random. Good luck!

What color scheme is your favorite or inspires you most? It used to be teal, pink and grey but lately I am really loving the mulberry, yellow, and teal - as you can see it changes often :)

If I looked into your craft closet, what would I see? A total mess, normally I am the biggest clean and organization freak (which I'm ok with) but this is one area that I can't clean and organize enough so I pretty much gave up. As long as I know where everything is then I'm good.

You are invited to a fancy dinner and only have a knee-length green sweater to wear.  What jewelry would be your perfect accessory? My grandma's long strand of pearls that she handed down to me a few years back, they go great with anything!

Happy Friday! Who’s ready for the weekend? Me me me! I’ve got some scrappy things to do and looking through all your submissions got me inspired! This week’s challenge was to use squares and the results are fabulous. Let’s get started!

Totally cute cards right?! I’m in awe. There is so much talent in the world, you guys are amazing!

For this week’s challenge: Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away, so I want to see lovey dovey cards – BUT – I don’t want to see any red or pink! How’s that for a challenge eh? That way these cards will be able to get used throughout the whole year, and not just on the one designated day of love. Please email your submissions to me at paiget@scrapbooktrendsmag.com by next Friday morning (February 5th) and I’ll have the post up in the afternoon. Have a good week and happy scrapping!

Incredible cards, right? Thank you so much, as always, for playing along! So for the next challenge, before we delve into Valentine cards for a few weeks, let’s take a week to feature cards that use squares. Whether they’re made from punches, die cut, stitched, or your very own hand and scissors, squares are a great repeating element to use on a card. Here are some great cards that were published in the January 2010 of CARDS to get your ideas flowing:

Please email your cards with squares to paiget@scrapbooktrendsmag.com by next Friday morning, January 29th, and I’ll have another challenge post in the early afternoon! Until next time, stay warm, dry, and keep on scrappin! Oh, and if you’re CHA this week and you see me wandering around, say hello!

You’re My Cup of Tea

Hello friends! I hope you are all having a fantastic New Year. I can’t believe it’s already January; it feels like just yesterday I was just gearing up for Christmas and wrapping presents like a mad woman the night before. But now we are back to regular life and that means getting our card making on! As I was browsing our January 2010 issue so many cards popped out but I wanted to share a favorite stamping card called YOU’RE MY CUP OF TEA by Kimberly Crawford. I adore the subtle background stamping, and of course, that lace ribbon.

Card is 4  1/4 x 5  1/2″
How to: Stamp a floral background on a kraft card base. Tie white lace around the card. Die cut a rectangle from cream cardstock. Stamp a tea cup and a sentiment on the die cut rectangle, fill them in with markers, and place pink lace in the middle; attach the entire piece to the card base. Die cut a heart from white felt, then stitch a button to the middle. Adhere the felt heart to the right edge of the card.

To start the new year off right let’s do a giveaway! Tell me what you are looking forward to in 2010 and it will automatically enter you to win a 1 year online subscription to CARDS. Leave a comment by 10pm MST on Monday January 17th and I’ll pick one random winner. Happy Thursday and thanks for stopping by!

Challenge Gallery and New Challenge!

Happy New Year everyone! Did you do anything fun to bring in the new year? I’ll confess, I was asleep by 10:30pm…I’m not much of a night owl. But this morning we went to the Rose Parade – that was fun! While we’re on the subject of New Years, that’s what the challenge was this week! So here they are – thanks so much for submitting!

First up – a lovely 2010 card by Laurel Seabrook. I’m diggin’ those sparkly Thickers and the cityscape stamped across the festive stars.

Here’s a 2010 card by Sarah Parker. That big red ribbon bow is my favorite. Swoon.

Oh my goodness. This card by Heidi Van Laar is divine. I love how she turned the flourishes into chandeliers and added some sparkle with jewels.

Cindy Coutts created this stellar card. And now that I have a sewing machine (thank you Santa!) I can totally re-create that zigzag stitching around the border. So pretty.

I see a great combination of colors on this card from the talented Kandi Phillips! And I love that decorative border.

Amy Heller created this totally fun New Year card. Those cascading tags and sparkles really make this card POP!

Here’s what Jenyfur Pohl had to say about her great cards, “I can’t stop making minis! I use them frequently and it seems I never have enough. I put together a pair of New Year mini cards using a martini glass stamp and markers. The color combo is a little non-traditional but I’ve decided I like it. :)” Me too!

Isn’t this card by Tina Erdos lovely? It’s so pretty, I can’t stop looking at it. She made a whole bunch more New Year cards so make sure to check them all out on her blog.

And last but certainly not least, a great wine bottle tag by Dana Gustafson. She created this specifically for the hostess of the New Year party she attended. I’m sure she loved it!

Aren’t these cards great? It might be a li’l too late to create some for this year, but it’s never too early to get started on your 2011 cards right?! :) Happy New Year 2010!

Alrighty, moving on to this week’s challenge. Winter is in full swing here in the States. How ’bout creating cards with snowflakes on them to fit the season? Here are some cards published in the January 2010 issue of CARDS for inspiration:

LET IT SNOW by Hilary Kanwischer

WINTER WISHES by Ann Cox

WINTER WISHES by Kandi Phillips

Please email me your snowflakey winter cards to paiget@scrapbooktrendsmag.com by next Friday January 8th (2010!) and I’ll be back then with my top picks and a new challenge then. Happy New Year one and all!

New Years Card

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas this year. Ours was simple but perfect. My family lives all over the country and we were able to all be together this Christmas. It was wonderful!

Speaking of Christmas, did you get your holiday cards out this year? I actually sent my cards out a couple weeks before Christmas…which was a complete miracle and shock. I’m known for my Happy New Years cards because I tend to procrastinate that task until it is too late. Our December CARDS book is chuck-full of great New Years card ideas, so for those of you last-minuters like myself, don’t despair! We have the ideas to help you out!

One of my favorites in the issue is a card by Mary Jo Johnston. I love the simplicity, the polka dots, the colors, the clock and her attention to detail.

Picture 1Isn’t it beautiful? Want to recreate the card? Here’s how:

Attach a scalloped paper piece to the right edge of a grey card base; cover the seam with polka dot ribbon. Place a crown die cut on the right side of the card, then place pearls around the die cut. To finish, add letter stickers to the left of the die cut.

(Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper, die cut: Heidi Swapp; Ribbon: May Arts; Pearls: Prima; Stickers: Making Memories)

Have fun scrapping and ringing in 2010!

Hannah Craner

What color scheme is your favorite or inspires you most?
My favorite color is brown. My second favorite color is yellow. Together, they make me oh-so-happy! They instantly turn any crafting project vintage and warm. Pull a little gray into the mix, and I am in color-scheme heaven.

What is the last book you read?
I am a sucker for books. (Especially books with pretty covers, but that is the graphic designer in me talking...) My latest read was "Bird by Bird" by Anne Lamott. It is a fabulously hilarious book. It is inspiring and helpful to anyone who wants to learn to write.

If you were a mad scientist, what would you invent?
A spider forcefield around my house. I hate those creepy insects.
